LetsGoDigital found the patent, which mentions a ""skin interface"" in the text. And it's not just smartwatches that may benefit, but also in-ear Pixel Bid headphones and virtual reality headsets.Smartwatch usability is a major issue, so improving the experience simpler and less cumbersome might be a tremendous victory.Even more so with in-ear smart buds, which might be difficult to operate due to their small touch-sensitive controls. It would be fantastic to have a greater surface area of press skin. The patent includes diagrams that explain how it may function.
Accelerometers on either side of the wristwatch may detect movement on the skin. It'd also be fine-tuned to avoid false positives caused by touching or scratching the skin. However, this is unlikely to be completed in time for the next Pixel Watch. It may take years for this technology to find its way from the lab to the wrists — and that's presuming it's proven useful. The Google Pixel Watch, which Google has yet to announce, is slated to be released in May 2022.However, recent indicators suggest that project may face delays.
