Waverly Labs Pilot Review: Diminishing Language Barriers.
, by Anusiya M, 2 min reading time
Waverly Labs' Pilot earbuds is a smart hearable that has an appealing design and incredible function. Waverly Labs has integrated its own translation engine into the Pilot to make it an intuitive hearable. The technology is still in the early stages, but has scope for immense development. Soon this technology may make real-time language translation a reality. The sound quality is also pretty good.
The unobtrusive earbud is designed to comfortably fit in your ears. Its so small that its hardly visible once inserted into the ear. The box comes with rubber buds of three different sizes. So, you can choose a rubber bud that offers a snug fit. They earbuds stay in place even when youre doing vigorous exercise. The earbuds are available in three colors black, white, and red. A button on top of the earbud controls on/off as well as play/pause functions. You also need to press this button to pair your hearable with your cell phone.
The USP of this hearable is its translation function. However, it works best when the speaker uses native language. Also, you need to be in a relatively silent environment. If there is too much ambient sound around, the translated words may be lost in the noise. Pilot can translate 15 languages as well as regional variations. For example, the translation engine can understand regional variations of Spanish found in Argentina, Columbia, and Uruguay. To avail the translation function, you need to download Converse which is available on the Pilot app. You need to choose group chat or one-on-one communication once you download. To check the translation, ask the person youre speaking with to listen to the translation on one earbud or use the phone as a mic. While the engine does intuitive translation, there could be slight errors on tenses and grammar.By giving regular feedback to the translation engine, you can improve the translation efficiency. The best thing is that you will have a backup of the translation, so you can go back and check anytime.
Use the right-sized rubber buds to experience maximum sound quality. The rubber buds cut out external noise, whether it is music blaring in a gym or the sound of people talking as you travel on a train.
The battery will drain faster when youre using the translation feature. During such times, you can expect the battery to last for up to 4 hours. The hearable comes with a charging case that holds everything in place.
