The Valve Index is one of the premium VR headsets available in the market. The Valve Index headset runs on Steam's VR software platform. This sophisticated VR headset for hardcore gamers.
Design and Build
The Valve Index VR headset weighs around 800 grams, but then the weight is evenly balanced so that you can play for longer hours. The head strap is padded to offer extra comfort. The display has a resolution of 1440 x 1600 per eye. The refresh rate of 120 Hz gives you sharp action, but without the nauseous feeling. The headset has a manual IPD adjustor for optimum viewing quality. Built-in nearfield off-ear speakers deliver stunning sound quality. Moreover, you also have the option to use your headphones for solo play. The sensors are placed on the headset, which eliminate the necessity of setting up external sensors around the perimeter.
Controllers
The controllers have a unique design that allows for full hand tracking. The controllers feature a joystick, a rear trigger, a trackpad, and two buttons. The trackpad comes handy while scrolling for weapons and items.
Setup
As this VR headset is not of the plug-and-play type, setting up can be tad difficult. However, if you are already using a Vive system, youre in luck. The Valve Index is compatible with the Lighthouse base.First, you need to find the right spots to place the beacons. The beacons should be placed on opposite sides of the perimeter. The beacons need power, so you need to think of the placement of the cables when youre selecting the spots. In the box, you will get only two beacons. However, you can buy more separately and extend your play area to up to 10 by 10 meters.Attach the base stations with the mounts using the provided screws. You can also angle the mount while setting it up. After youve setup all the peripherals, you need to sync the controllers using SteamVR.
Whats in the Box
The box contains the headset, two controllers, two base stations for tracking, mounts, and batteries. You will also find connecting wires as well as controller charging cables in the box.Blog posts
