Design

The headset features a polygonal 3D cover panel with a matte finish. Two external cameras are affixed on either side of the headset. Theres a wheel at the back of the headband that you can use to adjust the fit.Moreover, there are no gaps in the headset, which gives you an immersive feel. The cameras offer up to 6 Degrees of Freedom tracking. The headset weighs just 400 grams and offers a comfortable fit. Also, you can flip the visor up to interact with other gamers or get your bearings in the room. The display has a resolution of 2880 x 1440 and a 95 degree field of view.Each controller has a touch pad, a thumb stick, Windows button, option button, trigger, and a side button. The controllers also have sparkly lights that give them a futuristic look.

Setup

The headset has external cameras, so there is no need for setting up base stations or external sensors. You can have your new Asus headset setup in just under ten minutes.Plug the headset cables into the HDMI and USB ports of your computer. Windows recognises the device. So, you just need to follow the instructions to pair the device and the controllers. However, you need to do a compatibility check using the Windows Mixed Reality PC Check before you plug in the headset. Once the initial setup is done, you can choose either the basic Mixed Reality Ready or the advanced Mixed Reality Ultra levels.The standard level works with most computer systems and has a frame rate of 60 fps. The Ultra level has a frame rate of 90 fps.
