Up your skin care game with L'Oral's new wearable

With L'Oral's wearables, you could track your exposure to harmful UV rays, but looks like at CES 2019, they are coming up with something better. Using microfluidic technology, the My Skin Track pH measures your skin's pH levels via sweat. This information is then used to recommend a product suitable to your skin from La Roche-Posay, L'Oral's skincare brand.According to L'Oral, the My Skin Track pH takes accurate pH reading and the reading is complete when the two center dots take on color. All of this happens within 15 minutes. You have to then open up the companion app to take a photo of the sensor. The app reads the sensor to get your skin's pH and rate of perspiration. This information is put through an algorithm to assess your skin and make a product recommendation for your specific skin condition. The skin pH level ranges between 0 to 14, while health skin will have a pH level between 4.5 and 5.5. Multitude of factors like temperature, pollution, humidity can affect your skin and upset the pH level. It may lead to dryness, eczema and atopic dermatitis. You can worsen the bad skin responses if you are not using the right skincare products. The My Track pH is still just a prototype, created by La Roche-Posay and Epicore Biosystems. L'Oral will first introduce the My Skin Track pH at select La Roche-Posay dermatologists in the US. They will however continue research to study the effects so that they can launch a consumer-ready version soon.
