We've known for a while that a new Oppo Watch Free was in the works, and we've just gotten our first look at it. The information was obtained by Evan Blass of EV Leaks, who is known for his accuracy in this area. The Oppo Watch Free has a tall design that combines the fitness tracker and smartwatch form factors into one device, similar to the Huawei Watch Fit and Huawei Band 6. It also has the same body curve, making it more comfortable to wear on the wrist. We don't have any specs or information on when it could be released, but it's likely to be weeks rather than months. Oppo was awarded the Watch Free trademark in Europe in May, and we guessed that this may be a sportier version of the original Oppo Watch. And it appears that we were correct. We think that the change in name and form implies that this is meant to complement rather than replace the existing Oppo Watch. When the Oppo Watch was first released in China, it used Color OS; however, when it arrived in the United States, it ran Wear OS.It was one of the few devices to defy convention and run the A Color OS UI on top of Wear OS, a technique that Samsung has since adopted with the Galaxy Watch 4. When the Oppo Watch Free releases, it will be interesting to see if Wear OS is still supported. Its processor selection will also be intriguing. Wear OS 3 appears to require a Snapdagon 4100 chipset, so all eyes will be on if the Oppo Watch Free chooses to adopt the upgraded OS. Will it run Wear 3 out of the box, or will it get the upgrade in 2022? Such many questions, so little time - let's hope we don't have to wait long to find out.
