Oppo has joined the Ar bandwagon with the announcement of its Air Glass eyewear, which, unlike prior Oppo eyewear designs, will be available in 2022.The Air Glass, which was presented at the company's newest futuristic Inno Day event, seems like a modern take on Google Glass and appears to be an extension of the Oppo AR Glass prototype it debuted last year. This time, though, it's referring to the gadget as providing an 'aided reality' rather than an augmented reality experience. It does this with a monocle design that weighs under 30 grammes and is made of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass. That monocle comes in black or silver frames and features waveguide display technology, as well as a Spark Micro Projector from Oppo, which uses an extremely bright Micro LED chip to project a 640 x 480 quality picture onto the waveguide display. You'll be able to use the eyewear to browse, read notifications, keep track of health data, use it as a teleprompter, and turn to it for real-time speech-to-text translation using that display.Surprisingly, it will allow you to engage with the aided reality gadget in a variety of ways, including by touching, talking, and using motion controls. It can also be controlled using Oppo's smartphones and the Oppo Watch, allowing you to navigate the display using your wrist.Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform will power the Air Glass, which is already powering a number of Google's Wear OS smartwatches, including the Oppo Watch 2 and the TicWatch Pro 3. When in use, the battery life is estimated to be roughly 3 hours, with a longer standby time of 40 hours. It will be released in China on a restricted basis in the first half of 2022, however, no pricing has been set yet.Apple is expected to enter the augmented reality hardware industry for the first time in 2022, making it a huge year for AR. Apple, Samsung, Google, Huawei, and others will undoubtedly be watching how well Oppo's augmented reality attempts are accepted when they go on sale.
