Maimo, a Xiaomi sub-brand, has released a smartwatch with a low price tag and a respectable set of features all around the world.

The Apple Watch clone (which is identical to the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite) costs $39.99 (2,950.96 INR) and comes with a large 1.69-inch TFT LCD screen in a 44mm casing with 2.5D curved glass. Without an AMOLED display, the screen won't be the brightest, but with such a big viewing surface, the custom OS should be beautiful and apparent.

There are 50 different watch faces to select from, which is a significant part of the Maimo attraction. There's a pulse rate monitor, as well as the Maimo watch also has SpO2 for blood oxygen monitoring. GPS is not included but there are 13 different varieties of sports profiles to track. However, it does have an intriguing AI running partner that displays how much lacking or progressing in the number of attempts you are. We are however unclear about how this is determined without GPS, so there is no word on linked GPS via a smartphone. It is, however, 5ATM water resistant, so it will withstand a swim in the pool.

Interestingly, the Maimo has Alexa built in, and the battery lasts for 10 days between charges. Outside of China, Xiaomi was a late entrant into the wristwatch market, and the Mi Watch Lite and Mi Watch have not yet gained the same momentum in the West as its Mi Band fitness tracker line.

We expect the Maimo watch to be primarily targeted at developing markets in Asia, but we might see interest in Europe and the United States as well.

There may be a few smartwatches in the sub-$50 pricing range, like the TicWatch GTX, Mi Watch Lite, and Wyze Watch however the quality of these devices is still noticeably lower than even sub-$100 devices.

On paper, the Maimo watch appears to be capable of giving such products a run for their money. Maimo.co is where you can get it.
