The passive atrial fibrillation feature rolled out across its range by Fitbit is approved by FDA, it enables Fitbit devices to use PPG optical heart rate monitor to scan for any potential heart rate rhythm issues.

Fitbit charge 5 and Fitbit sense could previously use ECG sensor to perform heart rate rhythm spot checks . However this new feature enables a wide range of Fitbit devices to check for heart rate rhythm issues. The following are the full range of devices that will receive the feature; Fitbit Sense ,Fitbit Versa 3, Fitbit Versa 2, Fitbit Versaite, Fitbit Charge 5, Fitbit Luxe, Fitbit Charge 4, Fitbit Charge 3, Fitbit Inspire 2, which means that every Fitbit device dating back to 2018 will receive this feature which was previously restricted to only a handful of the most advanced smartwatches. A condition that affects nearly 33.5 million people globally is Afib , which is the leading cause of strokes and hence making it al the more important for people to be aware of it.

Constant scanning is helpful than relying to the user to spot check manually . Passive monitoring helps people track Afib events happening during sleep which inturn helps to to seek medical attention.
