Huawei's blood pressure monitoring function has been approved for usage in China, which implies it might be included in the Huawei Watch D. A Chinese blogger who claims to be familiar with the Watch D project uploaded two renderings of the device on Weibo, predicting a December 2021 release date. The Huawei Watch D's existence was first reported in September when the gadget was discovered by European officials. The Watch D is classified as a medical device with "medical analysis; heart rate monitoring apparatus; arterial blood pressure measurement apparatus; blood pressure monitors" in the trademark application. However, the Huawei Watch D has been given permission to deploy its blood pressure feature. It claims that the government has approved the company's "State Drug Administration Class II medical device registration certificate," giving the feature the go light. Huawei received blood pressure monitoring permission from the Guangdong Provincial Food and Drug Administration for an 'ECG blood pressure recorder,' as we previously reported. All of this suggests that a new Huawei Watch with blood pressure monitoring may be on the way in China but there's more to it than that. The introduction of an ECG-based blood pressure sensor that provides cuffless readings would be significant for the wristwatch industry. And, if it can operate without validation a big if it would be a huge step ahead. In the consumer arena, only Samsung has offered blood pressure monitoring, which needed FDA approval and cuff validation. If Huawei can demonstrate the technology, we're confident that others will follow suit.
