The Fossil Gen 6 has been teased online, and it is said to be "much quicker."

Just hours before the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 is unveiled, Fossil has previewed its next generation of smartwatches.

Fossil smartwatches have long been a Google Wear OS partner, and the firm has sent out emails to its user base previewing its new line ahead of Samsung's first Wear OS wristwatch launch since 2014 on August 11th.

The teaser does not mention Gen 6 by name, instead stating simply, "Way more, way quicker." Fossil's newest, most sophisticated smartwatch is coming soon, it continues. The following is a copy of the email:

The Fossil Gen 6 isn't the first time we've heard of it. Fossil's future smartwatches will support the upgraded OS when they arrive later in 2021, according to a Google blog post that finally clarified which current smartwatches will be updated to Wear 3.

It's unclear whether the Gen 6 will ship with Wear 3 or will be upgraded in 2022.

So far, that's all we've learned. Of course, Fossil is touting speed' as a significant benefit of its new watches, implying that they will operate on Wear 4100. Given that Gen 5 ran Wear 3100 and Gen 4 was built on 2100, this isn't really surprising.

However, reports claim that a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5100 is in development although new silicon is generally revealed well before smartwatches containing it are released.

Fossil will benefit from the latest version of Wear OS, which includes new features, (claimed) improved usability, (supposedly) greater battery life, and Fitbit-based activity monitoring. That will make customers feel more confident about purchasing a Fossil smartwatch, which has been well-designed and priced but has been held back by a difficult-to-recommend operating system.

Wear 3, which will be available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, is Google's hope for change. With Samsung on board, the company is attempting to entice developers to establish an app ecosystem that can compete with the Apple App Store.

And, with Fitbit handling the fitness tracking, it has a good chance of capturing the attention of smartwatch buyers. Fossil has always catered to the non-tech, lifestyle audience; perhaps with Gen 6, it will be able to wow even more.
