As part of the expansion of its wearable device lineup, Amazfit has introduced a smartwatch for children.
Huami (or Zepp Health in the West) has announced the Amazfit Pop Pro for distribution in China on Weibo, according to Gizmochina.
Given that the Pop Pro is already available as an adult wristwatch in India, and that there is nothing professional' about this kids smartwatch, it's an absurd title.
Although, like Huami's adult-focused smartwatches, the new Pop Pro puts fitness and health features front and centre, it is the company's first kids-focused wearable.
The Amazfit Pop Pro for kids has a bright design and a rubber strap, and the front-facing camera, which is meant to shoot entertaining photos from the wrist, is impossible to miss.
However, for a children's wristwatch, it has a surprising number of adult-sounding functions.
Heart rate and sleep monitoring are available 24 hours a day, and there are a variety of sports tracking settings for youngsters to explore. Running, rope skipping, and everyone's favorite sit-ups are among them.
It's IP68 certified, so it can resist being submerged, and it has 4G connectivity but it's unclear whether this is for location monitoring or so parents can contact their kids without having to use a smartphone.
For the time being, it'll only be available in China, and there's no word on cost. Although few manufacturers have truly penetrated the kids smartwatch market outside of China, there's no word of a wider rollout.
Fitbit and Garmin have both released kid-friendly fitness trackers in the last year, which have evolved into smartwatch-style gadgets. Apple has now made it possible for parents to convert older Apple Watch devices into smartwatches for their children.
