Withings has announced the acquisition of 8Fit, a health, fitness, and wellness app, to assist owners of its smartwatches and other linked health technology maintain good health practices. While Withings hasn't said how much it spent for the app, it has said it intends to utilise it to create more individualized health and wellness regimens for its products. 8Fit's subscription-based app debuted in 2014 and focuses on tailored home workouts, individualized diet planning, and health features like sleep meditations. It presently has apps for Android and iOS, as well as an Apple TV app.Withings' existing app, Health Mate, is a well-designed software complement to its hardware, and it already includes weight-loss and sleep-improvement programs. Bringing in 8Fit's expertise would undoubtedly strengthen what Withings could offer in terms of more fitness-focused programs, as well as, perhaps more intriguingly, nutrition, which is an area where many applications fall short. Rival applications like Fitbit provide some of the same features as 8Fit, such as home exercises and personalized insights, but this appears to be a smart move by Withings to ensure it's covering all bases when it comes to encouraging healthy habits. Following the acquisition of 8fit, Withings announced the acquisition of Impeto Medical, a French medical device business, to help fuel a larger push into linked health products.Withings launched a new gadget to its lineup in the form of the Body Scan smart scale in January. It ultimately gained FDA approval to commercialize its ScanWatch hybrid, which combines ECG and SpO2 sensors to provide critical health monitoring data, in late 2021.Withings hasn't released a new hybrid smartwatch since 2020, with the exception of new finishes and designs. We liked the ScanWatch and the Steel Sport HR, so we're interested to see what Withings' new acquisition means for future hybrids.
