Samsung had clearance for use of the ECG feature only in South Korea, but now the long-awaited feature is available for all Samsung Galaxy Watch models in the US. The company announced FDA clearance at the launch of the Galaxy Watch 3 earlier this month. You can now manually take an ECG scan to look for atrial fibrillation (Afib). Hold your thumb to the bezel and finger to the top button to fire up the app. You can see the results in the Samsung Health Monitor app. You can also use the app to log symptoms such as dizziness or fatigue. ECG is now a key feature on high end devices, it is available on the Apple Watch Series 5 and 6, Fitbit Sense health watch and more. However, there are companies that found the regulatory side of ECG challenging. For instance, Withings only has clearance for ECG in the EU, Oppo has clearance only in China and so on.
