Oculus VR co-founder Brendan Iribe Leaves Facebook

The co-founder of Oculus VR, Brendan Iribe, has announced his exit from Facebook. Iribe, together with Palmer Luckey, Michael Antonov and Nate Mitchell, founded Oculus VR in 2012, before Facebook bought the technology company. In a Facebook post, Iribe wrote that he was "deeply proud and grateful" for his teams work but it was time for him to charter a different path. But according to TechCrunch, the exit is attributed to the fact that Facebook cancelled work on the Oculus Rift 2 and has a course in mind for the future of Oculus which is fundamentally different from what Iribe wants. All this is not surprising, as the company was already promoting more accessible and affordable all-in-one headsets like the Oculus Go and the upcoming Oculus Quest. These models do not require a PC but the quality of course is not so commendable. TechCrunch contacted a Facebook spokesperson who said that the work done by Iribes team on PC VR will manifest in some way in the future. It seems to be a bad time for Facebook because prior to Iribes exit, the company saw several other top honchos leave - Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger as well as WhatsApp CEO Jan Koam.
