New EU project Dedicated to Wearables with everlasting power
, by raj, 1 min reading time
The European Union is funding a new project to enable a new wearable charging standard. No more docking stations! Smart2Go is a research and innovation initiative which is part of the EU's Horizon 2020 project. They have 36 months to help create an 'autonomous energy-supply platform' that can power everything from wearables to medical-grade trackers. The idea is to pair a powerful battery with energy harvesting technologies but no one knows how this will be achieved in the practical world. For instance, you can harvest energy by converting body heat into power. The project is dedicated to developing a modular platform which can be used by future manufacturers to use as a base to build on and customise based on the devices. The details are still sketchy but we can learn more when Fraunhofer FEP (the German electronics firm behind the project) gives a presentation at the Wearable Europe Show in April.
