The new Gen 5E collection of smartwatches from Fossil is here and at a cheaper price. The cheaper alternative has a smaller design, still runs on Google's Wear OS operating system and has pretty much the same features.The Gen 5E for men is available with leather, silicone and stainless-steel bands. These bands come in three different colors. The women's model comes with rose gold, two-tone and blush bands and are available in four different colors. The Gen 5E for women features a smaller 42mm case with 18mm removable bands. However, the Gen 5 equivalent comes with a 44mm case with 22mm bands, offering a significant drop in size.The sizes remain the same as Gen 5 for the men's model, you still get a 44mm case and 22mm band combo. All Gen 5E watches come with a smaller 1.9-inch touchscreen always-on displays. They offer a 390 x 390 resolution, resulting in a drop in resolution when compared to Gen 5. With Wear OS, you still get all staples like notifications, apps, music controls and contactless payments. You can take calls and use Google Assistant with the built-in speaker and microphone. The Gen 5E includes Qualcomm's Snapdragon 3100 processor along with 1GB RAM and 4GB of storage. Gen 5 watches, on the other hand, are powered by Qualcomm's newer 4100 processor and has 8GB storage.You get accelerometer and gyroscope motion sensors to track activity as well as a heart rate monitor. There is no built-in GPS or an altimeter, making it less sporty. With 3ATM water resistant rating, you can take into your shower or pool. On the plus side, the battery life stays unchanged, you get 24 hours and with a host of battery saver modes, you can go a bit further. You can now pre-order the Gen 5E models from Fossil's website for 18,500 INR and will apparently ship close to 3 November. The standard Gen 5 model come at 30,000 INR, so that's a bargain of 3,500 INR.
