Facebook coming up with a Google-powerd smartwatch

According to a source at The Information, Facebook is all set to launch a smartwatch by 2022. The device will focus on health, fitness and messaging services. It will run on an open-source version of Googles Android software, but may feature customs apps and skins. The Facebook smartwatch will feature a cellular connection too.The Information also reported that Facebook will launch a follow-up device in 2023 with its own custom OS. The Information also highlighted that the company wants to pit its health and fitness platform against Strava. They might come up with a platform where users can compete with each other in step challenges, hardcore fitness routines and more. Given that Facebook has the largest user base, it will be easy to bring people together.So, why is Facebook trying to enter the smartwatch space? The most likely answer might be to go up against Google and Apple. Facebook did try to buy Fitbit in order to grab a ready-made smartwatch platform but Google outscored them. The company has been vocal about entering the wearables space - work on Aria AR glasses is underway, but a pair of smart glasses with RayBan might be launched in 2021.
