Zimmer Biomet, the medical device company, is joining hands with Apple to create a new app which will use data from the smartwatch to determine why some patients with knee and hip replacements recover faster than others. It is estimated that around 10,000 people will be part of this clinical study. This mymobility app will only be accessible to patients who are part of this study and will be available on both the Apple Watch and iPhone. The app will let surgeons send reminders and advice to the patient via the Apple device and receive information regarding the patients movement. Though this app is to primarily assist patients in recovery, it will also provide surgeons with insights so that they can provide better post-op care."We believe one of the best ways to empower consumers is by giving them the ability to use their health and activity information to improve their own care," said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer. After Series 4's ECG, this is another attempt by Apple to turn its smartwatch into a more serious health tool!
