Although the Apple Watch Series 7 has only recently been released, speculation regarding the Series 8 is already circulating. And it appears that blood glucose is causing a stir in the IT sector.Apple has begun exploring non-invasive blood glucose tracking for future Apple Watch devices, according to a paywalled story on DigiTimes and Ennostar and Taiwan Asia Semiconductor are working on the technology. It appears to be an infrared sensor that interprets blood glucose levels using wavelengths over 1,000 nm and a photodiode.Heart rate and blood oxygen data would also be handled by the sensor.Blood glucose is a major focus for wearable tech businesses.Fitbit and Amazfit have shown an interest in glucose monitoring on the record.Apple has been submitting glucose patents since 2018 and has been tied to Rockley Photonics, which claims to have created a reference platform capable of measuring 'glucose trends' non-invasively.That's because diabetics have a huge opportunity to check blood sugar levels non-invasively and continually. However, glucose data may be useful for measuring the impact of what we consume, ensuring that we eat at the proper times, and for those preparing for endurance sports. It is skeptical whether it will make an appearance in Series 8.
