With many smartwatch makers adding 'waterproof' to the list of features, swimmers have a variety of devices to choose from.Waterproof rating is one for the most important factors, along with trackers to measure lengths and strokes for those who want a wearable for the pool. So, are you one of those who cant decide which one to pick?We hope that by the time you are done with our comprehensive list you will have made up your mind!

What is Waterproof Rating?

Most waterproof gadgets are rated based on IP and ATM standards. Most gadgets given an IP68 rating are said to be " dust tight" and protected during complete submersion in water; while a device with a 1-ATM rating can withstand up to 10 metres pressure underwater.Assessment of the device's threshold for pressure is important to understand the depth to which you can take them.

Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro

This waterproof device also gives you real time swim tracking data. A light device with a 1.5-inch AMOLED display that lets you move with ease in the water and view your pool performance. It can withstand up to 5 ATM (50 m depth). A waterlock mode ensures that upon hitting the water the screen doesnt confuse the water for user swiping the screen. The watch comes with a Speedo On app that lets the user measure lengths, distance, time and also SWOLF- a swimming efficiency measure. In all it is a good-looking and efficient tracker at a reasonable price (18,000 INR, Amazon).

Samsung Galaxy Fit

Cheaper than the Gear Fit2 Pro, priced at 10,000 INR on Amazon, this tracker is smaller (11.2mm thick) and waterproof to a depth of 50m.The design makes it easy to swim with. It too has a water-lock feature similar to the Gear Fit2 Pro.Though it does not have GPS, the motion sensors a quite accurate, and the Galaxy Fit makes a good choice for an all-day fitness tracker that can be worn in the water as well.

Fitbit Inspire HR

This is Fitbits cheapest swim tracker. It can recognise breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly or freestyle (front crawl), and can record swim duration, distance, lengths completed and pace. You first need to turn on swim tracking from the exercise app on the device and set the pool length to get accurate data from your swim. The tracker is lightweight and works well till depths of 50m in swimming pools only. The screen allows for you to view data in real time making it a good choice at the reasonable price of 10,000 INR (Amazon).

Fitbit Charge 3

A great tracker for the pool, it also tracks your activity in the water. Fitbit's SmartTrack tech, gives the Charge3 the ability to recognise when the user is swimming, capture swim lengths, duration, distance and pace. The only issue with this device is that the user cannot view the swim data on the device in real time. The data can only be viewed on the companion app.For accurate data, you need to calibrate the pool length on the app before you get in for a swim. Priced at 20,000 INR on Amazon, we actually expect a lot more from this device and Fitbit.

Moov Now

A simple, lightweight, and accurate tracker, though a little old now.
