Apple's AirPower Charging Mat Will Not be Launched

Apple's AirPower charging mat was revealed back in September 2017 but never actually took off. Overheating issues led to multiple delays and now it looks like the mat will never see the light of the day!According to TechCrunch, Apple has officially cancelled the AirPower. Dan Riccio, Apple's SVP of hardware engineering, told TechCrunch that the charging mat did not meet Apple's own product standards "After much effort, we've concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have canceled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch," he said, adding that Apple is committed to a wireless future. The overheating issues occurred due to the proximity of the 3D charging coils and Apple did not know how to work around the problem and decided to scrap the project altogether.Apple rarely abandons a hardware project that it announces and this is a let-down especially for people who wanted a singular mat to charge their iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods simultaneously.
