Have you been waiting for the launch of Google’s Pixel Watch? The sad news is that it is probably not going to be released by the end of this year. Miles Barr, Director of Engineering for Wear OS, Google in an exclusive interview with Tom’s Guide told that “ To think of a one-size-fits-all watch, I don’t think we’re there yet.” He said that currently Google is focusing on its partners and that they are looking into the possibility of releasing a smart watch in the future.
A PR representative also confirmed the fact that there are no plans for Google to launch a smart watch in 2018, though it could be possible in the future. It looks like smartwatch fans need to wait longer to get the Google’s Pixel Watch on their wrists. Evan Blass was the first to reveal that Google had plans to launch Pixel-branded products including a smartwatch. It was rumored that the Pixel-branded smartwatch was most likely to be released during the hardware event on October 9, 2018. However, now it looks like Google will need the assistance of its hardware partners to get moving on the smartwatch platform. The top watch brands including Casio, Fossil, and Diesel have all released their smart watches this year. We’re hoping that LG and Huawei soon add smartwatches to their product list. In the recent weeks, Google has been focused on refining and rebooting Google Fit by redefining the user interface.
We are looking forward to a lot of development in Wear Software and Design in the coming months. However, we are not sure if Google has just delayed the release of the Pixel Watch or has decided to cancel it all together. If the Pixel Watch enters the market, it would offer a strong challenge for Samsung, Garmin, Fitbit, and Apple. We’re waiting for Google to give us a response on the launch date of the Pixel Watch. Until then, we’ve got to wait and keep our fingers crossed.
