A Fitness Ring from Microsoft Maybe on the Cards

It looks like the Redmond giant has filed for a patent to design a smart ring fitness tracking and gesture control.

They are aiming for a basic wearable with the ability receive notifications from connected smartphones, pay through NFC, track activity and heart rate. The filing contains detailed description of the smart ring or rather the “finger band” (as referred to by Microsoft) and how it will designed to accommodate a user’s finger to recognise different gestures. The filing also talks about battery life, with the company suggesting that, in one case, “using a 10 mAh battery powered by energy harvested from an NFC-enabled smart phone, the ring could support more than 10 hours of active user interactions.”

But what we need to remember at this stage is that this is just a patent and may never be realised!
